As much as I admire anyone who comes into the forums and freely offers up advise in an effort to help out this community, I can't just sit back and let people offer up such poor advise without me saying something. Link Bidding is essentially Buying and selling links for the purpose of gaming the search results and will eventually GET YOU BANNED. It is completely against Google's Webmaster Guidelines Nough Said!
Link building in general is not against the Google's Webmaster Guidelines. Otherwise Internet will have to close because of all sites being banned.
But buying and selling for the purpose of influencing the search results is totally against their policies Google acts as Judge and Jury and will usually just ban you regardless of what your reasons are for buying or selling the links
vstar is much more right than wrong... Investing in efforts that have the benefit of gaining links towards your website isn't the problem... The moment "the link juice" becomes the primary commodity being acquired... is the moment you are in trouble. If you "sponsored an auction"... you can easily get and keep a link for that development... but when you start auctioning link juice as a commodity... and we all know why it's a commodity... that's where you have stepped past Google guidelines and landed neck deep into a pile of shit. In order to avoid any negative feedback from Google add rel="nofollow" to all link auctions and Google can then see that you are offering ad space "traffic"... course now we understand that your "auctions" are near worthless because no one is bidding... case in point... The juice as a commodity is purely manipulative... and you will take yourself down and all those that acquired your offerings with you.
