Hi guys, Tell me plz which benefits have expired domain names: 1 - PR 2 - Trust 3 - backlinks 4 - temporary benefits(before google update information) in PR, backlinks and etc. May be you have some experience? I see(at GoDaddy auctions) that expiring domains have a bids from buyers, but what a reason, if, for example, google drops PR for such domains? Give plz links to interesting topic in which it discussed, if you know. I'll be waiting for your answers. Thanks.
1. PR - Aged Domain Names will often have existing PR especially if they have been registered for a continuous period of time. 2. Trust - I think you'd need to know of the history of the domain name before being able to assess this, but reputation takes a while to build. It is a bit ambiguous but you may mean trust in the sense of being conceived of as an authority in the particular area/niche it operated in and/or you are intending to operate in. Alternatively you could mean trust in terms of whether it can be 'trusted' in the sense that the PR hasn't been faked or it hasn't been sandboxed or carried questionable content. I suppose you could see whether you could find what kind of content resided at the domain at various times to evaluate whether there was inappropriate content or it was ever blacklisted for any reason. You wouldn't want anything that was banned as that would defeat the whole purpose. 3. Established traffic and backlinks with transparency with respect to visitor volume, usage statistics, the ability to verify what keywords it was ranked for, how highly targeted they were, what their average CPC is. I don't know much about expired domains but was under the impression that Godaddy don't show you a lot of information about them, so unless you have a tool you can use you might spend a lot of time manually going through them to distinguish the better quality ones.
no doubt.. Trust.. and trust depends on age.. if site is not banned and its old site (8 to 10 years old) then its means google trust on it.. So Age is important if site is not banned by Google..
Well..not all expired domains are beneficial. They may have bad history, like spammed domains, sandboxed etc Apart from trust which comes with age of domain, think of you get a high PR like PR3 domain. And you just did a 301 redirect to your domain, then you just got PR3 backlink to your domain and that helps immensely. Many people do this and of course you have the option of reuilding the trusted site with some more than average speed link building Not all domain registrars have the auto renewal option enabled unlike godaddy. Even if it is enabled then the billing may or may not go through. Everyday that fails renewal for various causes, comes as expiring domain.
Thanks, as I see there are 2 possibilities how to monetize dropped domain: 1 - Just set 301 redirect, and got 3PR link to other domain. 2 - Try to restore old site on this domain, but it will be needed additional linkbuilding for this site. 3 - ...any other possibilities? In other cases Google will drop in some period PR and backlinks for such dropped domain.
Setup a website with relevant content after doing some research with waybackMachine @ www.archive.org . Add google analytics/ any tracking code and find the major source for your traffic. Then focus more to the keywords for which yr site is ranking. Build some backlinks to rank high in such keywords, wait for results and flip the domain
One note: The PR can drop dramatically if you drastically change the site from what it was used for before (which will probably be the case). You can minimize this risk by viewing the old site in the wayback machine and try to target some of the same META keywords and ANCHOR text, at least at first. Then you can gradually phase the old content out over time. Good Luck!
@alex.ohc - great idea. Of course! Using google analytics/tracking code as a source to find out what the main keywords are for which the site is ranking. I was focusing on the pre-buying phase and wondering how to find this information out. @zupreme - agree. Internet Wayback Machine is useful but has it's limitations.
