Hi guys, sort of elaborating on my other thread about getting a domain with a keyword in. Ideally you will want a short domain name too. Simply for the fact that when I was testing some direct mail advertising I noticed something. I ran two campaigns. One had a shorter URL and one had a longer URL. Yep you've guessed it, the shorter one converted better. If you think about it, upon reading a letter with a URL being advertised. You are not going to put down your letters and go straight onto the computer and log onto the site. So, this is why a short, memorable and catchy URL is better. So they remember it when they need it. Another small factor is because of typing errors as well. If it's too long the potential customer may mispell when trying to type in the URL from memory. Something to take into consideration when running similar campaigns. Young Moulah
Yes long words just mean more chances for errors and a short catchy name will stick in someones memory. But there is a lot more to picking a good name.
I agree with Save. Short and catchy is the main thing. Also avoid things that can be misinterpreted. Such as site2site, siteTOsite, siteTWOsite it can get really confusing for people!
A shorter domain .com is the best way to remain in visitors mind. BTW you need also good content to make regular visitors.
which one would you remember better? tmz.com or http://www.hollywoodcelebgossips.com/ ? That will give answer. Short urls are always good.
lol i remember "tmz dot com" cz i see it in newspapers everyday! bt a longer domain like "america dot com" would be more easy to remember than "tmz dot com"
"SHORTER DOMAINS" -are very valuble ..the reason is they are easy to remember and bring back the traffic as along as it is easy to remember so these small length domains are valuble ..and there are many more reasons
short domain names are fine in practice, but if you opt for a 2 or 3 kw phrase then you may want to target a slightly longer domain name?
Yes the shortest the better thats why i bought dogs.fm. Despite I dont think it is worth as much as .com but it is still easily to be remembered and may worth thousands?
short but pronounceable. short with all consonants are crap. Better to have a 5 or 6 letter brandable than a 4 letter all consonants
i prefer short gTLD .pro domains then long 3-4 word idiotic .coms!!) when i see 3-4 word coms i am sure it's spam!!
