If I found a nice little niche that I want to put together a single web page for, would there be any disadvantage to just creating a page within a domain I already own and marketing that URL, or should I just get a new domain name that's close to my niche and start from scratch? Pro's, Con's.
Hi Christian, Your own domain gives you a brand name although you start at PR0 etc.. Using a sub page on a current domain means you bypass all that stuff. However, from experience, new ideas I have I create a new domain and wrap it up into its own entity. That way it can be sold and marketed separately from everything else. G
Actually, a sub page would still start at PR 0. New Domain Pros: easy to remember easy to market can submit to directories much more Cons: $1.99 at godaddy. Subpage Pros: Save $1.99 Cons: Hard to remember Hard to market Must pay to submit to many directories. Make your choice, though I think that a $1.99 info is the best choice possible. (Look for a coupon code and save a dollar! )
I like having a dedicated domain for any specific product/service etc. Let me ask this if I may...what does everyone do for hosting when you have tons of sites? Do you host everything at one place for some discounted rate, or are you paying $100 a year to host each site? That can get pricey if you have lots of sites.
I use dreamhost. They're, well pardon the pun, dreamy. I will admit some people hate them. They've had bad experiences with them. I challenge you to find any hosting company that gets all rave reviews. People are very passionate about their host providers for whatever reason. I can tell you, personally, I've never had one problem with Dreamhost. Now, they do have some ridiculous setup fee. However, if you look online for something like dreamhost fee waiver, etc...you'll find a coupon code, I did, that gets rid of that fee. I only pay $10 a month for a crap load of space and unlimited sites. The best part, every month, they increase the amount of hosting space automatically. Jason
