Benefit/drawbacks of rss feeds on forums?

I have found a mod to put rss on my fourm. What benefits and drawbacks are there of doing this.

Benefit for me would be possibility to read new topic on my Google Reader, so if topic of forum is of my interest, I would join it.

Drawback is that some of your forum traffic without ads would be used for RSS.
