Is there a reason why they choose beheadings instead of shooting or stabbing? or maybe just threatening

    Worker beheaded in south Thailand

BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) -- Suspected Muslim insurgents in southern Thailand beheaded a man in a gruesome attack carried out in the presence of the victim's daughter, police said Friday.

The man was identified as a 45-year-old Burmese worker at a prawn farm in the Nong Chik district of Pattani province, one of three Muslim-majority provinces in Thailand that has been gripped by a deadly insurgency since 2004.

Four armed men entered the prawn farm Thursday evening, blindfolded the man's 16-year-old daughter and shot the man at close range before beheading him, said police Col. Thawan Nakarawong, head of the Nong Chik precinct.

The gunmen then picked up the head and drove about 20 kilometers (12 miles) to a site where they tried to blast it with a bomb, but the device failed to detonate, Thawan said.

"The insurgents left a note demanding that police and soldiers pull out from the area, otherwise they will kill more people," Thawan said.

The government of ex-Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who was ousted in a coup Sept. 19, flooded the restive region with thousands of soldiers and police. Residents and local Muslim leaders persistently denounced the strategy as provocative and urged a peaceful approach to resolving the violence.

Coup leaders have indicated they plan to reverse Thaksin's strategy, saying they have agreed in principle to hold talks with insurgents -- an idea that Thaksin repeatedly rejected.

Drive-by shootings and bombings occur regularly in Thailand's three restive provinces -- Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat. More than two dozen people have been beheaded by suspected insurgents, but Thursday's attack was the first beheading in months.

In a separate attack Friday, a homemade bomb exploded near a morning market in the Thanto district of Yala province, injuring a police officer, said local police chief Surachai Wongsupaluck.

More than 1,700 people have been killed since violence flared in January 2004.

The problem is the conflict with Kula Lumpur they all speak Malaya down in this south Thailand. There is actully no one that knows what they want or "who" is the leader. There is a old gang but they have nothing to do with this new people. Before they wanted to belong to Maylasia but now who knows? They done this before not the first time they did this but most of the time they just shoot. They done monks, teachers as well as police and army i hope they stop when ex PM was kicked out but it got worse :(.
Anyone travelling to Thailand there is no danger in the tourists spots you are all welcome :)

Actually the 3 provinces were a sultanate until over 100 years ago.
Now this is just an excuse they use for making troubles.
The death toll is over 1700 since 2004 and still rising every day.
The burning down and bombing of over 200 public scholls, departmentstores, restaurants, railwaystations and more tell by itself what the problem is. -Islam-
They try to force none-muslims out of these provinces, even using flyers.

Criminals who claim that they will be good once the police leave them alone with their victims.

Does that sound believable to anyone? Anyone? Anyone? Buehler? Menji?

Police and army had to move in because of the violence at first and not the other way round.

The problem was the former PM did not give a rats arse about south beucase he had no voters there and they always had problems. The only good thing is Phuket, Samui, krabbi and some rubber plants. Now we can hope they do something about it. Yes you are right they are bandits but with a muslim front.

I dunno man, from reading the Koran it doesn't seem at all that Islam is a religion of peace. It seems that Islam is a religion of submission and that all those who refuse to submit to the Islamists will be put to the sword.

Sorry WP no they do not steal from this people. They want the police, army and other people off so the old system can come back. They sell weapons, deal drugs and many other things. The army does not really know who they are and what they want.

Isn't that the version the muslims want to see it in order that they can continue the way they did?
Aren't muslims the main drug dealers? - suppliers of weapons? Why is C4 found among elderly muslims?...?...?...?

Why is it that the local muslim society is blind and doesn't see anything?
It's like as if you never see your neighbours but living so close together.

What about the 200 schools burned down? - what would that bother drug dealers and arm-traders? What about looking at the reality of the facts behind?
