It's only recently that I have found out about keywords and SEO etc. after reading for hours and hours on these forums (thanks all) some questions please: 1. Are keywords just words that people type into search engines? And the page ranking dictates who gets to the top of the list with backlinks being the key to this. 2. Are keywords just the words that appear on a webpage or do they have to be placed somewhere specifically? 3. When I registered with search engines I though of something on the spot! Should I resubmit with better er kerywords! or will this happen automatically as a site evolves? 4. Am I right in saying that keywords should also go here <meta name="keywords" content="one, two" etc. to help with SEO although I understand it's not quite as important these days? Thanks for any clarification and sorry for all the questions
Meta tags are really not very important these days. What is most important is when other websites like yours and they link to you using relevant keywords in the anchor text. If enough other websites link to you with certain keywords, you will show up in Google's result pages under these keywords.
Thanks. Any ideas regarding questions 1, 2 and 3 please? Just thought of something else too. Is it important to have your keywords on each page and not just the homepage? Thanks.
Hi KowDot, Keywords are the words that you want to target so that people can search for your content with those targeted keywords. For example, you want to target 'free games' and optimize a page for that keyword. 1. Yes, but PR is not the primary factor to determine SERP. Relevancy is the key here. 2. Keywords are placed in places like title, header, and bold HTML tags. 3. You do not need to submit your site to search engine because they will send bots to your site and keep themselves updated. That's their jobs As for your last question, it depends on the content per page. Ideally, you should target different keywords per page since their content is different. Remember that search engine index your site by pages, so your most optimized pages will rank higher for whatever targeted keywords. Hope it helps
meaning, the backlinks of such site are relevant to its content. Sites that are linked in a bad neighborhood might have poor rankings too.
More or less explained by psyberweb. PR is secondary in SERP, a PR 10 'cheap laptop' related webpage will not appear if the user searches for 'pizza'..
You can integrate different keywords in your content page to optimize it for SEO. Please note not to use that keyword too many times
Thanks Guys - I have a lot to learn I am finding it incredibly hard to come up with keywords for my site, where to put them etc. I've had a play with Goodkeywords v2, Wordtracker and the DP tool but I'm still none the wiser yet. If I was to update my site with what I think are good keywords how long could it take for the SEs to update? I guess it's then a case of determining the ranking position by searching for my keywords?
It depends on when is the next visit of the search engine bots. The more frequent you update the content, the faster the bots revisit your site
I just posted an entry on my blog about choosing keywords etc... It's basic but will be helpful for you in determining which ones to use. http://designer.ad4business.com Once you have choosen the keywords, put them in title tags, meta description tag, headings, bold text, italic text, underlined text, internal links pointing to your web pages, and in link exchange code if you have any... Don't overdo all this, but try to have a good count. Bye
To know the keywords for your site you need to know the theme of your site. The keywords are a source through which ppl are able to search you on the search engines. So to have the right keywords in hand you just need to know the theme of your website clearly.
The keywords you then choose should be semantic. Meaning to say that only one word shouldnot be stuffed all around the website you should have synomys of that words also put in ur site, so that it becomes easy for ppl to reach ur site.
Hi, I am wondering if you recommend single words or phrases. Ie: "learn, poker" vs "learn poker" if you want to trigger "learn poker". Thx
Want to know without sounding dumb, but, will I have to submit my site to all search engines (read google) or will they spider my site by themselves?
Wait for them to spider your site. Most of the time when they look into your manual submission, your site has already been spidered.
Manual directory submission and natural link building is recommended and is more effective than submission and linking with the help of a software.
