Before I start blogging...

I'm wondering about inner pages created with permanent links for each blog post. In the past, I was using WordPress to run a site, and Google indexed the front page, but not the posts' pages, assumably because their content was already present in full on the front page.

I wanted the pages separate for a couple of reasons. The best reason, and the one that concerns me still now, is that I don't want a situation where people find content using Google, but then arrive at the main page and have to scroll down and look for the intended post.

My solution, then, was to cut out all of the content from the main page, leaving only the links to the posts. It worked out okay for that site, but I wouldn't like to do my personal blog that way.

So, is this really a valid concern? Some questions: Is duplicate content the sole reason that the pages don't get indexed? And, is it necessary to wait until the posts fall off of the main page for them to be indexed? Will they get picked up anyway if they get linked externally or something? Thanks in advance.
