Salmonella is known to cause typhoid in human beings. The species involved include Salmonella typhi and S. paratyphi. The mode of infection to human beings is generally through contaminated water. Salmonella infection is otherwise known as Enteric fever and severe cases of infection causes ulcer or hole in the intestine resulting in peritonitis and will prove fatal. The emergence of multi drug resistant salmonella is a real challenge to the medical fraternity. Hygiene is the watch word to prevent infection.
