An accredited (icann) domain registrar or a domain reseller? Heres the ICANN information http://www.icann.org/registrars/accreditation.htm (you'll need about $100,000 available capital) and just about any major domain registration website has the ability for reseller accounts.

ICANN Certification is a long process. It would be better to start off as a reseller first then build up your reputation, customer base, capital and so on. Also it is cheap to start and it allows you to get the feel of what the business is. If it works for you then go apply for the ICANN Certification, if not, you can maintain as a reseller or cut your losses.

Namecheap is a reseller for Enom. After being successful, they have recently applied to be a full fledged Domain Name Registrar.

Use Drig's link to ICANN Certification, that would give you a good understanding of what you need to do to become your own registrar. It is a long and expensive process.

It's not so easy as you think.
I mean, even if you have 1mln$ it's not enough in this business.
If you want to become Domain register you should have good reputation, conections in this business, and another important things, which I don't know.
    Yet...:)

    have pointed out.

An accredit registrar is not only a long and expensive process but also risky business
Your cost for .com .net is 6.25 and not 6

If someone gives a price like 5.99 he just loose 0.26 and hope to get them back with something else he will sell to you

You need to register a LOT of domains to cover your yearly ICANN fee, be profitable and competitive

There is no domain name business anymore
Domains are the cherries to registrars for creating a customer base to offer additional services

Maybe such is the reason why most accredited registrars began as resellers first.

Wheres the extra .25 come from? ICANN fees? If so, that is usually expensed to the customer, not the business.

you can get a free reseller at http://www.domain-hosting-register.com

but please note that a lot's of professional seo are domain reseller with old domain, so i think it will take you 3-4 years go get any result and lot's of time with seo and link.
