The new name of the SCAMMER who want to buy your domain name is now : Robert Johansen Ph.D. CEO Opera Engineering I received a mail 2 days ago from this man who want to buy me a domain name. I made research on this very forum and found that it was SCAM not because of the name but the content of the mail, see below the mails exchange : His 1st mail : Hello, What is your price for the domain mentioned in the subject line? I'm very interested in this name. Did you get offers from other people already? I run a software company. We develop client-server systems and databases in MS SQL and Delphi. Buying and selling domain names is not my main business. Just another way to invest money and make additional income. Looking forward to do business with you. Best regards, Robert Johansen Ph.D. CEO Opera Engineering My answer : Hello, can you send me please the URL of your company as I can't find it on google. Thank you. A couple of people get in touch with me already. Though I can't tell you their offer just make me one, I'll see. cheers. Christophe His 2nd mail : Our small software company is based in Norway Norway P.B. XXX (I censored it) XXXX (I censored it) We work as contractors of one bofg company and don't sell anything online. So we don't have a site. I need to know the lowest price you can accept. My answer : Well, all I can say is that the offers I've been made is a three-figure number. thank you. Christophe His 3rd mail : How about 980 USD? Ok? Do you have an appraisal certificate? Domain name is an investment for me. In other words I'm going to sell your name later and make a profit. If I overpay I won't be able to make a profit in the future. It's very important for you and me to know the current market value of your domain. Of course, we must be sure that you are engaging a reputable appraisal company. I heard many appraisal companies often made inaccurate appraisals. I will only accept appraisals from independent sources I trust. To avoid mistakes I asked domain experts about reputable appraisal companies in a forum http://domaintalk.ourplace.com/Archive/62049.htm Juck check this posting. If the appraisal comes higher you can adjust your asking price accordingly. I also hope you can give me 10% - 15%discount of the appraised value because I need a room to make profit. After I get an appraisal from you we'll continue our negotiations. How do you prefer to get paid: www.PayPal.com, www.escrow.com, check or wire? Hope we can come to an agreement fast. Looking forward to your reply. And now the conclusion, after several search, my last answer : Hello, very well played. I almost fell into your trap. After reading a couple of forums I just seen that this mail was a scam. So sorry, I won't give you $60 for an appraisal with allfordomains.com. Christophe See ya !
Hello all, I received this kind of email few times. They all have the same sentences: "I run a software company. We develop client-server systems and databases in MS SQL and Delphi. Buying and selling domain names is not my main business. Just another way to invest money and make additional income." So be careful... thanks for sharing this!
Haha, that's funny. That's not even a real forum conversation, just a basic HTML page made to look like a conversation. If you try to look at the "archives" or active forum, there's nothing there. And at the bottom of the page it says "Powered by vBulletin." Ridiculous.
Thanks for the heads up on this. He tried to get me to do it for enterwork.net and offered me $3800. I didnt buy into it. I figured he was trying to get an apparaisal at 4 sites he approved of. I blew him off. But thanks. But he used the same email lines you listed above. What a joke.
I just got my first scam mail Here it is: Hello, What is your price for the domain mentioned in the subject line? I'm very interested in this name. Did you get offers from other people already? I run a software company. We develop client-server systems and databases in MS SQL and Delphi. Buying and selling domain names is not my main business. Just another way to invest money and make additional income. Looking forward to do business with you. Best regards, Paul Anestad Ph.D. CEO Opera Engineering Sound familiar?? Should I even reply? Heck no, I'll just block the e-mail addy. Here it is if you wanna block it too: Thanks for the heads up digitalpoint!
Heres what he gave me with an archive thread to: "How about 3,800 USD? After I get an appraisal from you we'll continue our negotiations. How do you prefer to get paid: www.PayPal.com, www.escrow.com, check or wire? Hope we can come to an agreement fast. Looking forward to your reply." I asked if he was still interested at buying at $3800 and he gave me the ho hum and run around. When I asked him how the arrangements would be made this is his replies: I asked:Ok so how are you going to work this out? Just advertise through that email service you showed me earlier? He replied: "Yes, that's right. I asked: "Ok that is fine. I just do not want to invest anymore than I need to. I need to ask how you are going to set this up? How much would you start asking for the sale price of the domain? Considering you were asking to buy at $3800. And with appraising the site upwards to $29,500. Yes indeed I would give you the intial commission of 15% of what the site is sold for. As far as payment goes. I would rather have the money sent to me directly before any transfer of domain names, than I would take the 15% and send it to you if that works for you. With the agreement on you, me as the seller and the buyer at anytime can pull out of the deal." He replied: "Subject: Re: enterwork.net (sent 13/16/06) Date: Sat, 18 Mar 2006 01:26:09 +0300 He replied: "I think I will ask 25,000." He also said in another email: "I've already invested $250 in promotion (opt-in lists from http://www.1-bulk-email-mailing-address-list.com ) and don't want to take additional risks for some time. You don't need too invest money in promotion so it will be reasonable to give me a time to find a good buyer. As soon as I find a buyer I'll buy your name myself. I hope our cooperation will make us good money. Thank you for understanding." And no I am not selling through him. I almost fell for it. But thanks for this thread it gave me the heads up. I hope others are not falling for it. I asked him if he was still interested in buying at $3800 and he had no reply other than advertising it through his promotion in his bulk mail http://www.1-bulk-email-mailing-address-list.com . So he has no real interest in buying just trying to get people to get a domain appraisal in one of the companies he chooses. They are all $50 or more. And he wants you to go through 3 - 4 appraisal companies he chooses. So I would say it is scam.
