I think Astroman gave the most straightforward answer. It it looks too good to be true, then most likely it is. If it's a cheap $20 site you're buying, then the revenue "proof" isn't really important at all, as it's really more about what potential it has in your hands personally. If you think you can make money from the site yourself, then go for it, irregardless of the stats, good or bad.

However, if it's a site in the xxxxk range, then you should research as much as possible. Check the Alexa (not just current but the trend), check the wayback for significant changes, domain age, PR etc. Also, get the owner to either create a login to check the stats yourself, or put your Adsense code on it to see what kind of impression count you get.

Never take posted screenshots at face value. Always do the research to verify if those shots seem legit for the site in question.

Anything can be faked online these days. Scammers use these tools to fool you, but you can fight back if you are smart about it!

U r not right. And I will tell u why. I have website that gives me ~400$ on adsense monthly. Soon, I will try to sell it. If I stop working on it, it will get ~40$ per month. Promotion on Social Bookmark websites is essential. I have ~8000 of unique visits per day. When I stopped working on it for a two weeks, that number was ~800 unique visits per day...
    So, thats my point...
If you don't believe me, visit www. euphoria - magazine . com

BTW, anyone have Idea how much I can get if I sell entire webiste with a domain?

Scams seem to have increased a whole lot of late but with that being said there are ways to try and protect yourself.

Don't rely on Adsense Reports alone! Don't think cause someone has an inflated iTrader they can't scam you. They may inflate their iTrader with small purchases and completing transactions for things they need, but always waiting for the BIG FISH to take advantge off.
There have also been cases where people get their accounts hacked and you think you are dealing with a respected member of DP with 2000 posts and 500 iTraders but you are just dealing with the guy that hacked the account.

I would go as far as asking the seller to prove it is his site by creating a file and having him upload it, just like SitePoint does or Google (for use of their webmasters tools). I sell sites on Sitepoint, ebay and other forums and I would never mind uploading a text file to prove it is my site.

It sucks we have to resort to these tactics but there are just too many scammers out there.
