So I was surfing around today and I found a BBC clip that featured a freelancer site. Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgX0cFHnvfw The site is PeoplePerHour.com. I noticed there were over 3,000 people offering article writing services and over 6,400 people offering web content services. Just shows you how much competition has increased over the past few years for general article writing. Just this one site has a high concentration of people. There are almost 9,000 web designers there LOL. Think I'll join the babysitter category. There are only 8 competitors.
Whoa! We are now competing against that many service providers. Sheesh. Maybe I should stick to writing for a low paying middleman who at least pays me every month. It would be so much more difficult to look for clients now
I bet there are hundreds of new people willing to write general articles for sites opening shop daily at this point. It seems like many who can't do anything else try to fallback to this plan. Unfortunately, most will never make much of anything. The only good news is that each day there are tons and tons of new sites going up and many existing sites that need content, design, etc. When you get a client, it's vital to service them well, sell them on other services if possible and keep building a relationship with them so you're always the first person they are thinking of when they need whatever you provide. And don't just wait for a need to develop, create one.
I agree. It is important to establish a good working relationship with your clients. Doing so increases the likelihood of more repeat business in the future. Always aim for excellence and endeavor to exceed their expectations.
