A long time ago we started tracking mac addresses on certain types of accounts. In order to create a field for this someone entered General Preferences, Definable Fields, and Broadband Config, found an empty one (9) and called it "Mac Address". We are now attempting to have a script use the data in this field but when it posts the line it sends out seems to crop leading zeros and all letters. I remember something about this coming up once regarding the way searches by this field were returning errant(seeming) results (an account with a different mac than the one searched-for) and you (Shawn) saying that this was a property of the field. Can you describe again the property of that field that creates this behavior (I am using incorrect terms in my explanation and hearing that in most cases if letters were not available they would not be allowed to post in the first place, etc...)? Also, is there a table for which of the definable fields are 'positive integer only' and which will treat the contents as text? (There does not seem to be any notation under the Broadband Config.) And most importantly, is there anything I can do to rectify this with regard to script posts? And if not, is there any way I can shift all of the contents of all of the BB9 fields to another Broadband (or other) field en masse in order to get them somewhere that they can be used by scripts and searched-by? Thanks! Sam
Most definable fields are strings, with a couple exceptions where they need to be integers for other things (for example the default VCI/VPI assignment fields). I'm guessing you might have it in one of those. What field specifically is it in, and I'll check.
The field in question is named (by us?) Mac Address, is under "General Preferences", "Definable Fields", "Broadband Config" and next to the number 9. It appears to post out (in cropped form) from BB9 using the scripts. Sam
Duh... was wondering what BB9 meant. oops. Yeah, those are the two integer fields (BB9 and BB10), which is VCI and VPI by default.
Is there any way I can move their data (letters and all) to a more appropriate field, en masse? Sam - FSI
Unfortunately not since the field is a number, every way you use it to output it will spit out an number. Replace (into another field) or export.
