Hi All, I am asking for opinions on the effectiveness of my home page after the most recent changes. The changes were mostly to strip out some information that made the page a little long and to punch up the language. The other change was to re-order the chunks of the remaining information to try to flow the ideas towards a signup. What I would like to know from the casual user are answers to the questions: 1. "Does this tell you enough to get you excited enough to signup?" 2. "Do you trust the information without having to root around the site"? Thanks in advance for all comments. Plumsauce .
It tells you enough to have an understanding of the service offered pretty much immediately. You don't need to root around the site for furthur clarification. Personally i would add some kind of eye catching horizontal header repeating the name basicstate and with your tagline "free web site uptime monitor service" in clear bold lettering. Just my personal slant on it though
The organization of the site is great and it looks very professional (so yes the information looks trustful). However, I think it looks too plain.. I would atleast add some sort of gradient on top and change the pale yellow to red.
Sorry if anyone feels abandoned by my silence. I was waiting to see what responses came in on their own without commenting because I did not want to influence the incoming opinions. Nialler and Severything, that's a thought about the top banner. I think I might try a gradient effect done with css in a few days. BochGoch, there is a link to samples about halfway down the page, maybe I should find a way to bring attention to it. The tradeoff of course is that they navigate away from the pitch page. Web 2.0, ummm.., I've heard the phrase, but I don't actually have a good grasp of what that might be. On the signup page, I moved the information text out of the red box, and put the actual form fields into the red box. The idea is to draw attention to the simplicity of the form.(user name, password, confirm, submit). The simplicity is designed to get visitors to overcome their reluctance to fill out forms. Finally, I found a tutorial on styling form buttons with css. Moving away from the gray brick look at least gives the site a little bit of sophistication without needing to use javascript rollovers, etc. Anyone else feel like commenting? The floor is yours .
