Basic Search Engine

    Can anyone relay to me the basics of a simple internal search engine for a website (i.e., user hits button in HTML page, this links to a PHP file which search the HTML docs on the server and returns a response?).

    Also, does anyone have good resources on this topic?

    Open source will do, anything that works properly will be fine with me
