I have few questions regarding white hat and black hat seo which are Black Hat carries certain risks. Does White Hat SEO have any risks ?? Does Black Hat SEO techniques attempt to deceive searchers ?? Whats Grey Hat SEO ?? Which one would you be prefering and on what basis ??
White Hat SEO = Following search engine quality guidelines, meaning you follow all the rules put forth. Gray Hat SEO = Borderline SEO tactics that may or may not be considering against the guidelines set forth by search engines. Black Hat SEO = Actually breaking guidelines and using deceptive methods and manipulation to rank in search results with no regard to guidelines set forth by search engines.
SEO is the art of pushing the limits of the search engines. It is white hat if you get away with it. It is black hat if you get caught And it is gray hat if no one really knows.
We can say only White Hat SEO = Positive Effect in Search Engine Black Hat SEO = Negative Effect in Search Engine. Eric
always follow white hat techniques to stay in SEO market for long time. Never try to put short of techniques than may affect your ranking at long time.
I don' think white hat have risk in SEO, and actually it's the SE crawler is the one that black hat deceive.
White hat is actually the right and ethical way of doing SEO... While Blackhat is considered as the bad side of SEO...

I would not recommend to anybody other than white hat techniques, remember that there are only a few major search engines and if you are not in good terms with them you are of the game...unless you are planning to pay for all the traffic you need
It is my understanding that a white hat and a black hat follow very different buisnessmodels. Black hats will generate alot of domains with thousands of pages of content very quickly. They get alot of traffic to these domains in a very short period of time, and thier domains are always being banned. The buisness model is to assume your domain will be banned in a short period of time, generate more sites quicker than they are being banned and scale your short term profit thius way. If you get it right, profit is observed in a short period of time. White hats develop few sites that they believe are a contribution to the web. Traffic and profit takes considerable time to develop on the site, however, the domain has a good chance of standing the test of time and being an income generator for years to come. Grey hats use a bit of both buisness models in that some things they do will breach G guidlines (such as buying links, ...) but they are certainly not out to spam up the index and are hoping to get a boost from thier methods and fly under the radar to have a long living site. A white hat will typically call a grey hat a black hat, while a black hat will typically call a grey hat a white hat. Here is an interesting conversation between a leading black hat and a leading white hat: http://www.seomoz.org/article/white-hat-black-hat
Search engines will most catch you if you are trying to manipulate their results. Search engines are wanting to rank sites that have natural links. Create killer content, participate in quality communities, and distribute content that will help people and you will never need to practice black hat techniques.
Black hat SEO can degrade your page rank and can adversely affect the traffic flow on your website. In some cases black hat SEO can deviate searchers from the original content. Grey hat is something between white hat and black hat. It include tactics like paid links, duplicate content and many more. It is always safe to follow white hat SEO technique as it is ethical.
