Basic Q about single product sale.

I am planning to put a single product on my site (an e-book)
I see the single product Buy Now button offered by PayPal

    My question:

I assume when a buyer hits Buy Now Button s/he is taken away from my site to the PayPal site.
What to I need to do to permit the buyer, after payment is made, to return to my site to download the product?

PS I am amazed that I can't find a description of this simple process anywhere online. Can anyone suggest where I might look?

Thanks for sharing your experience, it is appreciated. :)

Thanks for the suggestion jestep however it doesn't really answer my question and I really would like to learn how the process operates. I have found free shopping carts so the service here at DP is a me-too service (which is fine). Everywhere I look I notice it comes back to Paypal so if Paypal has to be involved I'm wondering why use anyone else in the process?

I suggest you to look in the PayPal developer section it describe how to get the return parameter from Paypal site and pass it back to your site.

When you create a Buy Now button at Paypal you can choose to add options, one of which is to have the buyer continue to a thankyou page of which you provide the URL.

However Paypal is probably the worst functioning option for this, because around 50% of your customers won't click the correct button to continue to your thnakyou page and you will get angry emails from them wanting their product. Other systems perform much better without needing the buyer to notice and click the right button - they will simply be taken to the thankyou page as part of the buying process.

Thanks sampathsl...I have wasted hours in the Paypal site and it will not let me ask a question or view anything worthwhile. It insists that I start an account first. I'm old fashioned...believe I have the right to ask quesitons before giving someone my business.

Also thanks to budfox. You wrote

Thanks sampathsl. I have spent hours at the paypal site and cannot ask a question or find the information you suggest (jsut went back and entered "developer section" into search and came up with zilch). It seems that paypal won't let a visitor really do anything until they sign up...I'm old fashioned believing I have a right to ask a question before signing up to a service.

Thanks also to you budfox. You said

Try e-junkie.com, They send an email to customer with download link after payment. And also if the customer clicks on Return to Merchant, they can download the product without even checking their email. Using PayPal's hosted buttons is not a good idea.
Use coupon "CRAFTBOOM" if registering for e-junkie.com trial to get your trial extended to 37 days.
