I have been running my first blog for just over a month and by implementing many of the tips given by members of Digital Point I have already reached an average daily Unique Visitor count of over 70. That equates to over 2100 unique visitors in my first month - not too shabby. More importantly, a large number of these visitors are now accessing my site without going through online links - in other words, they are returning for a second go because they have liked what the see. For those of you new to the forum who are just starting up a blog, it is easy to get caught up in the many different ways to promote your blog and encourage traffic aka readers. I have decided to compile a very basic list of what I would recommend as the essentials to begin getting targeted traffic to your blog. Targetted traffic, in my opinion, are readers who find your blog because it is relevant and stick with it because it is good quality. These are the readers you want - because if you play your cards right they will stick around for a long, long time. Anyway, here's the list of daily requirements: 1. Ensure you leave one post, every day – make it a good one. 2. Post regular comments on two or three popular blogs in your niche. I find it more valuable to post more regularly on less sites (as long as they are popular) than post less regularly on more sites. For my particular niche (Arsenal Football Club), this means sites such as: a. Arseblog.com b. Gunnerblog.com c. Goodplaya.com (I encourage you to check them out because you will understand how closely related they are to my site - you should 3. Submit daily posts/articles to one or two reputable social sites in your niche. A good example of this type of site in my niche is OleOle.com. 4. Post daily on Digital Point Forums to improve knowledge - the people hear know virtually the answers to any questions you might have, don't be afraid to ask 5. Establish one new quality link partner every day - aim high, the worst that can happen is you get knocked back. If you link with sites that have lots of traffic, the run-off will be better. Good webmasters can tell if a site is good quality, even if its not receiving traffic so dont be afraid to ask politely!) If you get a little bit more time, then try these: 1. Establish more quality link partners 2. Write a more detailed post that will attract more and more readers – brainstorm some ideas before doing this 3. Tweak your sites layout – a better looking site will maintain more readers 4. Add a new page that is relevant to your subject 5. Research keywording using products like Overture – this will enable you to write posts with SEO friendly titles and keywords sprayed throughout. It might seem annoying at first, but is worth it. For example, if it is more productive for me to write “Arsenal Football Club†rather than simply “Arsenal†then I would try and do this whenever it is applicable. Anyway, I hope that helps. The site I have been working on is (obviously) in my signature. It's certainly not perfect but it is on it's way, and after one short month of part-time work I am happy with it's progress. I hope these tips work with you. Feel free to comment on my suggestions, that's what DP is all about!
Good list you've got there! This should definitely get some of the newbies off the ground and running.
Thanks for the encouragement, I hope your blog goes wonderfully. Thanks mate, you've been a good support at times with my endeavours so I appreciate your positive feedback. When someone like you is leaving good feedback I know I've got something decent going on . I'd still classify myself as a relative newbie though haha!
wow man. Great post. But pt 28: # Creating SPLOGS. Is that a real mistake for new blogger??? P.S. you deserve greens. Its on the way.
Thanks for the complement. I've actually had several situations where I noticed my posts on SPLOGS. When I contacted the "creators" I found out that they thought it was okay to build "splogs" and take content from other blog feeds. Each time, the creators were complete newbies. I realize that there are some evil a@#@#$* out there who create these sites with ill intent, but it is a mistake that new bloggers do indeed make! BTW - thx for the greens.
nice read.... I agree and was know most of the points given there but dont agree with few Anyways still a great read for me Green the way
No i mean to say that is that only new bloggers create scrapper sites? I have seen some well established bloggers who owns scrapper sites.
Agreed. Both newbies and established people do create these sites. I think most newbies who do, do so with less ill intent then do the more advanced folks. Glad you enjoyed the post as well, Zerosleep
Thanks for the compliments - the greens were well appreciated. Has anyone had any success applying these tips or have any comments about their use?
