Basic CPM Question..

I have no experience working with any CPM networks but have recently been doing some research.

What I can't differentiate is whether the CPM rates discussed with the major networks (Tribalfusion, interclick etc.) are for 1,000 impressions of a single banner, or for a page consisting of 2 or 3 banners?

I'm guessing it's the latter but that would the surely make it objective to the positions and sizes of the banners. Alternatively I could be wrong and the CPM rates (i,e $0.5) could be per banner.

Thanks for your response. Does the CPM price vary dependent it's location on the web page, and in this a manual selection process where they instruct on where to put banners?

CPM rates are normally shown as 1000 impressions. In other words, if it says you get paid $0.35 CPM, that means you get paid $0.35 for every 1,000 banner ad views.

only few big networks pay like +0.35$ per 1000 impression and I mean here raw impression but they also don't have 100% fill rate

CPM rates vary from 0.02 to 0.80. It depends on the traffic. I receive most of the traffic from India and get around 0.03 to .05 per 1000 impressions from CPX interactive and globaltakeoff. If you have Tier 1 traffic you can get up to 0.80 CPM. Most of them do not fill 100% inventory they show few banner impressions and after that start showing in house ads which pays nothing. At the end of the day Quality traffic and impressions pays more. If you have 3 banners on one page I suggest you to use 3 different CPM networks to get MAX earning.

If you have 3 banners on a website at a time, for example a 160x600, 300x250 and 728x90. The advertiser/network will pay you for all 3 ad impressions.

Each ad size is tracked separate, some ad networks have CPM, CPC, CPA, CPL advertisers within one ad tag (allowing them to fulfill higher % of overall traffic) so if one ad size clicks or performs better you will generate a higher eCPM on that ad unit.

Many advertisers in fact look for multiple ad units on one page. If one advertiser shows up simultaneously on all available ad units its called a 'roadblock' and is considered quite valuable due to its high branding potential - advertisers looking for eyeballs!

    Cheers,
    Mike
