I am not at all familiar with cold fusion, but is there some aspect of programming that works better with cold fusion verses other programming types? What's the benefit to going with coldfusion instead of a more wider used programming like php?

probably the best thing about CF is it's querying abilities.. it's very simple to query and output from a database

    Hi Guys,

I have a client of mine in London who are a home grown TV network (one of the biggest in fact) who is looking for a ColdFusion Developer.

This is an excellent opportunity due to the companies reputation, location in London, working environment, and the money on offer. Although this is 'spiel', it doesn't make it any less true.

I'd like to hear from you if you are interested. At the end of the day, what do you have to lose in sending me an email and me telling you all about it. Who knows, your interest in your profession that led you here may lead you toward your next career step...hell, why not !! and what a career step that would be !!

    Email me at Jonathan.Kowal@ithr.co.uk.

No, we are not a big recruitment company... and yes I give a shit about professionalism, courtesy, and absolute honesty...hence why I have gained some excellent clients with whom I have grown great relationships with.

    EdgEvent,

I can tell you what got me involved with ColdFusion over other languages...

I had a ColdFusion developer who knew I loved programming. He ask me if I would be interested in learning ColdFusion.

I said I need you to show me 2 examples... 1.) how to get data out of a database and 2.) how to put data into a database.

He opened Notepad, took about 5 minutes, wrote 15 lines of code and voila!

Of course it was a bare bones basic example but when I saw the Power and the Simplicity... I was hooked and have been a CF developer for the past 7 years.

Here are the benefits I see:

1.) Simple tag based language (you don't have to write it 100% from scratch - the tags do a lot of the work for you)

2.) You only write the client-side code (the tags do the server-side code for you unlike other languages like ASP where you have to write everything)

3.) Hosting is now cost effective (I only pay about $12/month for CF hosting - and I've got dedicated host at less than $100/month)

At the end of the day it's really just personal preference. Find a language you like - that's easy for you - and stick with it.

There's no right or wrong answer. It's what's right for you.

The client or the website visitor does not care at all. As long as it works.

Good luck with whatever you choose!

    Scott

    hi,

The answer is simple. It is not similar to any traditional programming. It uses only tags similar to HTML. We can create applications very easily with less code. querying is quite easier

queries and dates aren't the only strong coldfusion sides. the best to my knowledge thing about coldfusion comparing to php is in-ram session variables, instead of serialized-to-hard-drive in php. and in general it has shorter learning curve. doesn't have you to learn c-like syntax with the support of c-like syntax via cfscript, easy way to work with lists and lot more. although if you know php, i don't think that it is worth to switch to coldfusion, just get job done utilizing most handy tool.
