    Hello,

I'd like to use AdWords for my free website to increase memberships, so hopefully companies will want to advertise on it. I am not selling anything.

Is AdWords good for me ?

What are you hoping to get out of this?

Without seeing your website it's hard to make a decision.

You are selling something - advertising space.

    Keep that in mind.

Adwords may or may not be good for you depending on what you are doing and what you want to get back from it.

    OK,
If you are getting 10 to 20 sign ups already, simple changes to your site would probably increase the number any way

    I checked out your site.
First of all it's not really clear and obvious how it works. Yes, I know you have a video and all. The video is still slightly complicated. IF you notice somewhere halfway into the video you ask again "So how does it all work?"

That's a bit late for the question. it has to come upfront.

What you need is something that tells the visitor what your page is about in less than three seconds.

You overall layout is NOT the best. If you can make it more compelling you will be able to get more subscribers without adwords.

For example, a strong headline and a diagram explaining everything with up to 4 steps. Let it all be as clear and simple as possible.

Now adwords can bring you more traffic, the question is have you researched into who will advertise on your site?
You have to get the money that you put into adwords back.

You need a lot of visitors to get money from advertising.

Just out of curiosity, who pays the money to the winners?

Oh, and do you have a page where everyone can see the submissions? That would make it more fun and trustworthy. You can very easily automate that process.

    Hi Ian,

Thanks for all the help mate. It's my mock (first draft) website so all the changes you suggested other have too. Which I will be doing down the line !

In terms of WHO will advertise on my site.. I had 2 local companies come to me and make me tiny offers. Talking pennies. So I had to decline.

My question is will adwords be worth the money in the end ? Unless my site BLOWS up I guess not, but I have to go down trying ;-)

I pay all the winners myself & they tell their friends so on etc etc.. After I payout I notice all I get more hit from that local area. I believe paying out wil bethe BEST form of advertising. People are shocked when I send them the money for such little work lol.....

Part II - I use to post the winners videos, but for now posted the "How it works" video.... That being said I will continue to post the winners videos !!!

DId answer everything ? Do you think AdWord is for me ? Even on a small budget of 2 to 4 dollars a day ? Canadian

I'll be completely honest with you.
Your business model seems very confusing.

You are willing to pay a few hundred bucks to winners but you want to spend less than 30 to promote your site.

In that case I would say Adwords is definitely NOT GOOD for you.

If you don't have a business model that will pay back the cost of advertising don't advertise.

I have a feeling you don't really understand what you are doing.

Again, without a really good website (from the visitors point of view) you will not get the benefits.

I strongly suggest that you revise what you are doing.

I feel your site can become really popular but you've got to get the money-making side right.

Now, you should focus on building a community.

Don't just put the winners videos , put all the submissions and encourage people to comment.

Possibly let users vote for winners for some competitions.

It's a really cool idea but it doesn't sound like solid business at this point.

With some of revision you could be onto something.

Yes, you make total sense. I'm happy you were honest with me. I'm redoing my business model as well. This was some of the best advice I have gotten !

Do you mind if I contact you in the future as well ?

    Thanks again
