Hi Baseball Fans of Any Team, I am building an 'old time' baseball site. One of the "features" I want to have are the old television theme songs we used to hear as kids as the ballgame was about to start on our local station....before we had to pay to watch BB on TV. Nowadays, the "opening theme songs" are full of "Rocky-like" music and synthesized "swooshing noises" with quick video clips. I get kinda dizzy! Here are a few examples of what I am looking for...circa 1960's. (Right Click on the link and "Save Target As" and save the .wav file to your hard drive for listening and saving. Don't forget where you saved it to!) NY Yankees theme from the old WPIX Channel 11 in NYC. Broadcasters: Spry, energetic and out-spoken Phil Rizzuto, The "Quiet Man" Jerry Coleman and "big Bear" Frank Messer. (I'm sure some of you may go back even further. Share your story!) Vocal: http://www.MoonShadowsFarm.INFO/sound/yankees.wav Instrumental: http://www.MoonShadowsFarm.INFO/soundfiles/yankeesinstrumental.wav NY Mets theme from the old WOR Channel 9 in NYC. broadcasters: Ralph Kiner (ex-NY Met), Jerry Nelson with those wild jackets, and grumbly, but lovable, Bob Murphy. (I'm sure some of you may go back even further. Share your story!) Vocal: http://www.MoonShadowsFarm.INFO/sound/mets.wav I will be glad to "cite you" as the contributer if you like. You can post here, PM or EM me. Thanks for any help. Jim P.S. I was raised in NY...just outside of NYC, so that is why I have these wavs. I grew up on baseball (generically) and the Yankees and the Mets (specifically). How about you? Where are you from? What was your ball team's theme song on a Saturday afternoon at 1:00pm when you team was just about to take the field on your local TV station? You had finished your Saturday responsibilities and chores, maybe even watched a few Saturday morning shows, and you were ready to cheer or boo your team into the afternoon hours before a 'quick game' with the 'other kids' on the block after dinner...until the street lights came on. Then, it was time for the Saturday night bath and a new week of pretending we were major leaguers on our favorite team. I still remember my Joe Torre Signature Catchers Mitt and how I served the number 2 position "behind the plate" for many summers on Bayview Avenue for Stanley Marvich...our neighborhood NY Yankee Mel Stotlemeyer wannabe. Those were the days of summers past.....simpler times.
This post is still at the top, so I can't be accused of 'bumping it'.... I tend to be impulsive and impatient when I see so many viewing a forum and thread within minutes of it's posting, but not replying to it. So, maybe you can't contribute files for my project, but you have to have "memories" if you clicked on a Baseball Thread! What are you childhood memories of baseball.....pee wee...sand lot...little league...school teams...neighborhood teams...traveling teams...minor league teams...major league teams....fantasy teams. etc? Good or bad.... Jim
