Hi, Which is more effective? Banners or links? Anybody want to share. Sometimes i will click on banners if they seem highly relevant.
I this is something you will have to test on your own site, for your own market. Banners in general attract more clicks, but on the other side, people are use to them being ads and therefore may not click. Then you have text links. If those links look like content, maybe a resource for more information, then you might get good clicks. I think it depends on the market. The gardening marketing would probably be different then the online gaming market. Test, test ,test! Joel
I think banners are often dismissed as ineffective due to "banner blindness", but just like any other form of advertising, it is your job to make them appealing and inspire the reader to click. From the reader's perspective, I think I would be more likely to click on a banner unless I was deceived by the link, thinking it was something else. Banner ads are not deceiving, and if you're deceiving people for clicks, the clicks are likely to be worthless anyway.
Call to action text like, "Sign Up Now" in bold red get me more clicks than even the most advanced video banners. But use both.
Banners are more used for direct selling, where text links can be used for selling, but are primarily for PR juice, which will help your site in other ways.
Im deffinately all for banners, but in my oppinion its all about placement. Different parts of the page can attract more or less attention, and having it near contrasting colors will naturaly pull the eye toward it. From there its up to you to provide a crisp fresh visual that'll entice someone to click. Its all pretty much a gamble though, and is pretty much even in the long run if you ask me
In my experience banner is more effective for tangible products. For example selling bracelets, house, etc - banner is more effective. I don't know about text link
Personally I pay more attention to banners when I just visit homepage of any site. But if I read an article I usually click the link if i'm pleased with reading it...Thus it depends...
I agree that banners work for some items and Text links for others. But when it comes to raw science the the human eye is always drawn to visual images, take for example flipping through a magazine you will naturally be drawn to the pictures. just chipping in my 2cent. Miltski.
One thing that banners offer that links don't as much is the branding element. Even if they don't attract the immediate click, the brand is forced upon the viewer's subconscious at the very least, and can have a bigger long-term impact than a simple text link.
