I have been running a banner advert for a client on a page that has been requested 11,000 times in a period. But for some reason my server logs show that the banner advert has only been requested 2,000 times. Why such a large discrepancy between the page requests and the corresponding banner requests? I know that the banner requests are likely to be lower than the page requests because of search engine spiders but could it really account for that much of a difference?
don't forget that if it is a graphic i will be cached by the users browser as well as things such as aol / ntl proxy servers. Most pages with banners are dynamic generated pages and as such the page does not get cached the same even though the graphics do.
I thought it may have been something like that but I was told that even cached images still create a record in the logfiles "304 document not modified". Either way, to get the accurate banner impressions count I guess I'm going to have to use the number of page impressions that the banner is on and somehow filter out all the spiders. How on earth can I do that?
have a look @ hotscripts.com , pick asp , php, cgi etc then "Ad Management" one of them might help make things easier if the future, although won't help much the now someone else who does paid for adverts might be able to offer a better way i would think / hope
