    Hello world,

I am just setting up my first sight and I have a banner I plan to place on
the home page, its size is 320.19kb, its a just text, does any one know if this will be too large or heavy in weight, will it take an age for the page to load.

I am far from even putting it on the site yet, so Ican not tell.

    Thanks..:)

For people on broadband connections (512kbit-3mbit usually) 320KB will take 6-7 seconds or less. On a 56kbit dialup connection, you're looking at 50 seconds or more

There's no reason for a banner image to be 320k. You need to optimize that image better (probably higher compression if it's a JPEG).

you should use phptoshop to save the file..in jpg it has a scale to reduce size..from 1 to 12 and a 6-8 value is good...size is reduced a lot and if your image isn't affected you could save itin .gif format..

    saludos :D

I agree ! If the banner is text only the size mentioned is too large. If it's an image the load needs to be optimized

Yeah a little too big :p. Also wanna take length and width into consideration as well. Bigger the image, bigger the size. Sometimes a smaller banner makes a better statement anyways.

Yes a plain text banner as a .gif image (saved and optimized in photoshop) should run you about 10 kb...

Don't get your banners to large b/c it's annoying as heck when a site takes a week to download because someone has 4 flash banners running on their front page :)
