I'm interested in using banner advertising for one of my sites as a way of improving both SEO and traffic. Banner advertising seems not to be very popular these days, is there any reason why this is so? doe anyone have any reccomendations about where to buy banner ads? thanks

What is the theme of your site? If it is a web directory you can easily get banner ad space on web directories or related blogs. Most of them provide space for banner advertising.

Can you please explain the SEO benefits from banner advertising - I have never heard of this before. Banner (aka display or interactive) advertising is still VERY VERY VERY strong.

I agree. If you know some of the advanced skills, you can make high response, effective banners to get potential buyers.

There are no SEO benefits unless your banner ad's link doesn't have any tracking attached to it - meaning it'll just be www.yoururl.com.

    Mainly because people hate banners.

And don't forget about alt attribute.
You can have SEO benefits only when you add this.

Spamming ALT can be counter productive, but you can get text links incorporated into banners, check here:

    clearstudentdebt.co.uk/index-5.html

Not sure how to make these though, but they are really good as you get 4 deep links.

    Check the code...
It's one stupid table in HTML, and sliced images...
This is the same as 5 small banners for SEO.

BTW. And it's not good for web standards...

Plus a lot of (quality) sites won't allow that. For example, a banner ad on yahoo.com's homepage.

Banners are just annoying as I intentionally try to scroll past them whenever I'm visiting websites.
