Depends on the situation, if the demand is high for ad placing on your site, you can charge by impressions. However, if there's a lack of demand, you can try to push the advertisers by offering flatrates, e.g. 30 days for $100,00

What's the site? And what kind of banners? And where on the site? If you give me details, I can help you out. :)

If you have a high traffic site, per impression would earn you more.

For high traffic sites, you should charge a CMP rate (cost per thousand impressions)
You could also run it per 10 days, but I would assume people would rather pay a monthly rate instead of every ten days.
    Simplicity sells

The site is not launched yet. Ads will be displayed in the bottom of the page right above the footer

To be precise, if you have a site with > 1000 uniques per day, CPM ( impressions ) would earn you a nice wad. However, if have have something with lower traffic, you can offer a specific rate for a month, lets say $50 depending on traffic.

i rely on both clicks and impressions. If you are bringing more search engine traffic then its good to charge for number of days.

I agree with everyone, impressions and clicks are the best way of advertisement. Pricing all depends on how popular your site is.

you should launch the website first. Most people wont buy without you having some traffic and stats to prove it.

I agree with southpar 100%. How could you think of selling banner ads when your site is not even launched ? Let your site go life for say a month so that you have a steady stream of visitors to your site, then only you can decide how much you can charge.

    Hi,
If you're just starting out, I'd stick to PPC ads.
As you build traffic, you can experiment with CPM and add monthly paying customers.
You can even utilize a service like Adtoll to sell your ads.

    Get traffic FIRST!
    Success,
    Sam

Uh for a site not even launched yet you can expect people to pay at most $2 for 10 days exp if the banner ad is all the way down on the footer which will receive 1/4 the views compaired to if it was at the top. Banner impressions sell for nothing anymore you normal CPM rate will be about 2 cents per 1,000 impressions.

Do you use Adsense or any other ad providers ads on your website? If so, then make sure you charge more than what you are receiving from them as thats a bad thing to end up charging less than what you would receive from them. Good luck.

    Two rules here-

one... you can try placing a banner of adsense for one week in the exact place you want your banner ads to appear for a offer to the advertisers. Whatever you earn for that banner in that place, you should charge around ten times more to private advertisers.

Two... you can simply charge advertisers by the industry standard of your niche, for example look around at other similar sites and in their advertisers page you'll most probably find a going rate.

Its up to you to decide what suits you and which brings you more success.
