Banned words? How do these advertisers get around it?

Can someone who is familiar with Adwords please PM me and explain to me how my competition is getting around some banned words that you can't buy.

I will give you a positive +1 for helping me find the solution.

Please PM me and I will show you the query in Google.

you could do some word play...like rnyspace (R N YSPACE...or GoogIe, the latter looks like Google, not here on the forum tho :)
Anyway its really not THAT important an issue since you CAN trademarked terms as keywords - just not in the ad headline. So....dont put "sony", "ibook", "apple" etc. in the headline but use it in keywords, no problem. People should know what you're selling if the rest of the ad is clear.

    SEOBiznezz,

Adwords doesn't so much ban words as protect brand trademarks. From observation the more you spend the more likely Google will protect you.

This is an actual word, not a brand that is banned. They don't use the word in their advertisement yet they come up for this word.

I have had 2 people PM me and they could not find the solution.

Anyone else willing to try figuring this out. You get an Itrader if you solve this.

    Hey Seobiznezz

I hope my pm was of use to you, just to elaborate, I once had a campain flaged because of a term that google thought was not "family safe" but after contacting them by email and pleading my case they reviewed the ad and allowed it

As I said in my pm, selling that product in the UK is legal and since those companies are UK based they should legally be allowed to bid on those keywords

As much as Google likes to think they are the Law... They Aren't

Legal pressure goes a long way , even with Google

hope I was able to help

    Seobiznezz, Vstar;

I have struggled with this problem for weeks now, and have searched and searched to try and find an answer but with no luck. I've tried using alternative keywords, but nothing seems to work as well.

The keyword I would like to use is not for anything illegal and very much falls in line with what you said - "selling that product in the UK is legal".

If either of you could spare a minute or 2 to let me know how you got around it, then I will gladly repay the favour somehow. I'll happily pay - I'm that exasperated with it now!

    Any help would be appreciated.

    TIA

    Dave

I'd be surprised if that is the case, there's aren't big main stream companies, it's a very niche market. Maybe so though. I've not tried to contest it with Google as yet, that's very much a last resort!
