    I think I have a new client whose site is banned from G's results. Is there a way to tell if they are banned?

    The "site:" command displays all pages from a domain that have been indexed by Google. Ex: If your site is called www.rbay.com (Say), then site:www.rbay.com should display all pages from your website that have been indexed by Google. Now, depending upon the size of your site and other factors, Google can display anything from a few to a couple of thousand pages.

    Now, if it doesn't display anything .... well, you have a problem 'cos this either means that Google hasn't indexed your site OR if you site was indexed in the past, it means that Google has possibly banned you (when you are banned, Google usually deleted the indexed pages as well).

    To fix this, you'll need to figure out why your site has been banned ..... fix the problem ... then email Google and submit your URL again if you have to.

    apologies for the MASSIVE necropost, but it's becoming more and more evident my site has been banned from google. How would you suggest I go about emailing them in order to get my site reincluded?

    Somehow I can hardly imagine Google is banning website's from their index manually, why should they? I can understand that the algo has found the content to be a duplicate, or found spamming activities and so on.
    And that the algo dicedes the site is not relefant.

    Any evidence for banning websites by Google?

    hows about: I submitted my link manually to google, for some reason google spidered some other site which it crossed its wires and attributed to my URL, hence the entry in its index pointed to this random experimental arty Flash website... when google realised their mistake, all entries referring to my url, all backlinks to it, and so on - everything was removed. Now, google downloads my sitemaps several times a day, but no sign of me in their index, whether you use a site: search or look for backlinks. It doesn't even recognise those.

    Yep, I was both added and then banned from Google without a single page on my site being spidered. This means, for starters. the dupe content hypothesis is impossible.

    Ach, if only a google engineer were to check his email or read these posts once in awhile!
