They are not. Self-promoting stumblers easily can make SU nothing more just a spamsite. :( Only 1-5% of SU visitors are stumblers, the others just browsing what that 1-5% offer to them.

Posts like this do make me laugh - stumbleupon has over 6,000,000 members, did you really think they were going to care that one blogger has a hissy fit?

I had mine banned and it was loaded with friends and was driving huge traffic (though crappy traffic). This was a while back. They stated that I sold blog posts on DP and stumbled a couple of the posts so that was why I was banned.

I wrote a post when it happened: Stumble Upon Sucks

Emailing them does nothing! They make up their mind and that is it! In fact, they can be quite rude. My old account is still under review after about 7 months.

Yes, I was told that SU was not for self promotion of any kind. With the exception of if you pay them for stumbles. I see no other prupose for SU if not to promote your sites.

98% of the people that use the internet don't have a site.
They use stumbleupon the way it was intended to be used - to share interesting things that they find. They don't have anything to promote. Imagine!

Do you really believe that? That sounds just like what I received as a reply from Stumble Upon themselves. I have yet to meet one person on Stumble Upon that does not have their own site. There are much more effective ways of surfing the web than through Stumble Upon.

I completely agree - although i do occasionally use it just for the shear hell of it, I'd say its more like 98% of people using it for self promotion lol
