Banned from google

A few of my websites are hosted on a shared server, one of which got banned for reasons I do not know of, also I have another site with high PR hosted on the same server. If an ip address is "tainted", would all websites hosted on that server be penalized? Would they have any PR at all? I'm thinking about getting another website going, should I get a dedicated IP or stick with the shared server, and hope google doesn't block the site?

    Thanks.

Google won't penalize an entire IP. Look how many sites share are on Yahoo's shared servers.

Is getting blocked the same as getting banned/penalized?

Will all sites that link to a blocked site get penalized?

So what you're saying is, i should stick with the shared IP?

I have another question, if a site is penalized by google, will it have any PR at all? What if the site is on a tainted IP address?

penalized site could have PR, but not a banned site. IP addresses don't get tainted.

Apparently some people believe that Google penalizes entire IP's, but I don't. Why would they ban or penalize 100,000 sites just because one on the same server breaks their rules?

Hmm you've got a good point, but two of my sites have been banned already, and they're both hosted on the same server. Could it be because I linked to it using the banned site?

Did you just write to google, and they responded with that message. I want to ask them whether i'm in their index, but i never thought they would give a personal response.

Yeah I wrote to them after a few weeks of not being listed, I would wait first before contacting them.
