Were you using Coop? Either to point ads to the site, or running Coop on the site?

Well in my case it is much more likely that I was knocked out because of unnatural linking (i.e. tons of link buying/trading, coop, etc.) but I have had 3 different sites with 3 very different approaches inch their way up in yahoo SERPs and I can get them to hold positions 4-10 for several months, but within days of hitting position 1 or 2 they completely fall out of the SERPs. These are for very competitive KWPs. Not the same as your situation (your progression to #1 seems much more natural), but for all the sites I track in yahoo, the only ones that I have seen get knocked out in the past year or so are the ones that I get a #1 or #2 position "unnaturally".

I doubt they would knock a person down because of advertiser complaints - advertisers are spending money, so why give them a natural top 10 placement due to a complaint? More likely is an automatic filter was triggered - who knows how or why.

    Classic.

I spoke to Tim someone-or-other from Yahoo, one of the head guys at a webmaster conference. I had the exact same scenario as you.

He said "Does your site deserve to be number one?" "SHOULD it be number one?"

My answer was no, whilst the information was WHOLLY on topic and there was nothing untoward at the end of the day the offical sites should be number 1.

You search for xyz and the offical or governing pages should come first, you'd expect it.

That's their take and they're sticking too it.

Don't be too good....I've given up with Yahoo, I had many legit sites banned.

I'm not sure what the image proves...?

Of course you think you should be number one! Yahoo obviously don't :)

If you searched for "search engine" and a site that wasn't a search engine outranked google, yahoo and msn what do you think the search engines take would be on that?

You manipulated a site top that simply shouldn't be there (note im speaking from yahoos pov).

The authority sites should. It's that simple.

Email put it for "Tims" attention, explain your story and say you went to the WMW conference at New Orleans and heard his speech on getting reindexed.

Explain ANYTHING blackhat you've done, or even dirty white hat. Explain that you've removed these naughty or potentially naughty things.

Be totally honest with yourself or you're not going to get anywhere.

Don't be distorted by emotion or personal bias. And most of all good luck.

IF that doesn't work and you've got a couple of spare bucks to spend then join the "site match" program (often called a "trusted feed").

They HAVE to unban your site for you to go in the program, it's guaranteed.

Then simply leave the program and stop paying.

    Again, I wish you luck.

Oh one last piece of advice, read the Yahoo guidelines, then read them again, then read them one last time.

Well, I'll give it a shot, but if I'm being totally honest, which I always am, I won't say I went to the conference, but will mention his speach on being re-included...

    Thanks for the tip! ;)

If what you say about your site is true I doubt it. Depends if you've got a buck to burn.

Don't go direct to Yahoo (I'm unsure if you can.) I'll pm you some more information I don't want to post publically. Standby.

Well, I gave it a shot and will see what happens but to be honest this whole Yahoo Search Submit stuff is a little scary.... It seems like what we have all been hoping would never happen... Seems like a paid algorithmic inclusion and even worse... this paid algorithmic inclusion will cost per click...

Our worst nightmares are around the corner....

Geez man, thats tough. Of course I don't have that problem as I don't rank anywhere near the top of Y for competitive or uncompetitive keyword phrases :D

Hope you sort it out, hope its a 1 off and not a sign of things to come, keep us posted

It's been around for a long long time. You're not guaranteed number 1 spots with it but you rank nice and high :D

You can also optimise your "feed", it's like legitimate cloaking.

I don't get it, are these guys hypocrites or what. I run a very sucessful online business and always back our products with a guarantee...if your not satisfied with our product return it for a full refund .

    They say statements like this:
Yet when you search Yahoo these are the type of results you don't get, IMO. They ban your site but keep it fully indexed to boast the most robust indice...BS. It seems clasione's scenero is different than mine mostly deindexed. My site remains fully indexed, all ibls showing but nowhere in SERPS. Yahoo has confirmed I am banned but does not disclose why and I'm getting sick of resubmitting!

I really doubt legal action is an option unless you try class action...still time consuming and financially taxing.

    Uhhhhh...

That's the beauty of going after them.... They may be forced to admit things they would much rather not.....
Even if a case can be made and force them to reveal even the smallest bit of information on why what has happened, heppened....

They would much rather not comment on it at all even in the smallest regard...

Didn't "I Brian" make a post about how in Yahoo if someone makes a false copyright claim that yahoo would remove/penalise the site immediately without question or investigation, it seems a sad state of affairs, best of luck Claisone, I hope it is not permanent, because if nothing else at least you know nothing is permanent.
