Bank lost cheque

I got a letter today from my bank. Apparently they "lost" the Adsense cheque I deposited a few weeks back ("lost in transit"). The have removed the deposit from my account and I'm now requested to get another cheque from Google.

I'm hoping Google won't have any problems with reissueing a cheque. If anyone has any experience with contacting Google about lost cheques, can you please give me a few tips to help speed up the process (e.g. all the information needed to be included in the e-mail etc.)

    Darn, pathetic bank!

Indeed. Pathetic service... now I know why Paypal doesn't support South Africa.

Just hope that nobody else has deposited into their account!

That's one of my concerns, since I signed the back of the cheque before depositing it. That means anyone can deposit in their accounts if I'm not mistaken. With it being a $200 cheque, I'm sure as hell not going to let it rest if I lose it.

If that happened I'll definitely fight the bank with everything I've got. Even if it's a losing battle. I just can't understand how they can lose a cheque that was deposited, and then hold me responsible for getting a replacement. It was their mess, so they should find a solution.

I have had similar problems (not with adsense cheques). It ended with the bank removing $50,000 from my accounts every 3 days (which, naturally, my accounts found a little hard to sustain!!! LOL).

And it ended finally with me ringing up the bank and telling the girl at the other end that if she really wanted me to hang up so the bank manager 'could get back to me later' then the next person I was calling was the police. It was her choice whether she required me to hang up or not, and by the way, how did I spell her name again to give to the police???

That got action fast. Issue resolved wihtin 10 minutes and all monies restored - which meant I could buy bread and milk again. Phew!

Don't be afraid to push the issue. It is their responsibility once the cheque is in their hands.

I'm definitely not afraid to push the issue. I'm just waiting to see what the reply from Google is to know how far I'm going to take this. I've already lodged a complaint on a well known consumer site, where the bank in question has a representitive.

After that I'll hit their customer support. Then I'll register complaints to all the banking watchdog orginization. If that doesn't resolve the issue, I'll write the press and take them to small claims court.

It all depends on their responses. I'm definitely not going to back down. Us South Africans have been satisfied with bad service for far too long!
