In a landmark verdict, the Bangladesh high court has ruled as criminal offence handing down of punishments like caning or beating to women in the name of 'fatwa' or Islamic decrees.

"Any person who issues or executes such an extra-judicial penalty must be punished for committing a criminal offence," said a two-member bench

Who knows they may even ban issuing fatwa next :D

As a Muslim, I support the court's decision. There are so many fatwas being issued which make no sense by clerics who have very strange interpretations of the Qur'an, applying punishment from such Fatwas seems to be contrary to Muslim values. These people chopping off hands may think they are good Muslims, but they are going to hell in my opinion. I am a bit new to my Islamic faith. Perhaps one of my brothers can make sense of the need to stone and cane people, and cut off their hands.
