Bangalore is the capital of Karnataka. It is the 'Garden City' of the south India. It is also called the 'Silicon City', because of a revolutionary growth in the field of software. Bangalore has its own history like any others. 'Bendakaluru' was the ancient name of today's Bangalore or Bengaluru(the name has recently been changed on 1st November, 2006, on the occasion of the'Kannada Rajyotsava'). During the medieval period(between12 and 15 century), Veeraballal or Kempegauda-the chief of the army-of the Vijayanagar Empire, waged war against the Muslims in the South. After his great victory over the Muslims, however, his army scattered into the thick forest. He, along with some of the remaining soldiers, headed into the forest. From far away, there appeared a small tent and a lamp was burning inside it. As they neared, ther found that an old woman was boiling beans. She offered the boiled beans to eat and shelter to sleep tonight. The weather was cool that made them quite asleep. When he awoke morning, he decided to build a village on that beatiful spot, and he did and named it as 'Bendkaluru', in the memory of the boiled beans(boiled beans means Benda Kaalu in native language) offered by the old woman. When he built the village, he also built four big towers on the outskirts of the village to mark that it was going to spread up to those four towers. Today, those four towers are right in the middle of the entire city. It is enough to prove that how fast the city spreading accross every day. Today Bangalore is the city of many opportunities in all fields. People from all over the world come once and settle down here.
