"ban this pc" button doubts

I am new to Adsense, just one month old. While registering with google, i remember having pressed one button labeled "BAN THIS PC". I guess this button allows the user to devote one pc for development work where you can officially see your own home pages ( not click ads ) but google will ignore it. I need to see how newly uploaded pages look like. Obviously not for clicking my ads.

But I have a question. I suspect that my own viewing increases the PAGE IMPRESSIONS count and dilutes the income created by clicks by other viewers. Is this right ? What is the logic of having BAN THIS PC button ?

I've never heard about a ban this pc button, sure you remember right?

And yes your own views of your site will lower the CTR, but who cares? you'll still make the same ammount of money as if you didn't view the site at all.

I can't recally any such button. Viewing your own pages shouldn't be a problem. Your CTR might look a bit strange, but it doesn't affect your income that much.

such a button would be impossible to guarantee. Only way to set it would be via cookie and people delete their cookies regularly - so it'd be wiped away at some point.

I remember such a button for other products though. For example asRep the tracking script has one.

And thanks, but I didn't draw those, it's the girl I live with, she is really good, myself I totally suck at it :)

I don't remember either such a button. However if you have a static IP you may ask Google to ignore clicks (and probably impressions) from that IP.

I have a dial up internet at home. I assume it is with Dynamic IP. Questin No. 1 : "how do i know if it is dynamic ip ? " Will trying three four times through http://www.whatismyip.com help in knowing ?

Question 2 : Why do you say that I should ask google only if I have a static IP ?

I never saw a ban this pc button as well ...

If they would do the checking at IP level, they would store the IP address on the server side.

Have you done this? I mean sure I can ask but is this something they have done for others? I have static IP and my home LAN has 5 computers used by family friends and visitors. I'd love to be able to have G filter my IP.

You are correct, I was just subjective.

If the connection of the LAN to the internet is made through out a computer router or even a proxy, you can deny outgoing connections to "*.googlesyndication.com".

Now why didn't I think of that :) Thanks. Not sure if my router allows domain specific entries but perhaps they use a range of IP's

Everyone should have broad band with a static IP. I'm always surprised when I watch American television. They have ads for dail-up internet access. Dialup! Not trying to be a techno-snob or anything but I havn't heard of anyone on dial-up in Canada for about 5 years. Must be issues with the way telco's and cable companies are set up in the states that make it harder to roll out. Maybe the recent wave of consolidations down there will sort it out.
