Ah-huh, but within the fair-use permissions of copyright law you are allowed (and even expected with all of the examples you cited) to quote a reviewer's comments regarding the product, book, movie or restaurant. So, what gives G the right to require special treatments? They make a public rating/review, they get quoted. Demanding not to be is nothing short of a demand for special treatments.

I'm not saying the number isn't theirs, they created it (often out of thin air it seems). I'm also not saying they can't decide to modify listings in their directory when someone uses the numbers in a way they don't approve of, though I do see that as a strong-arm tactic to force compliance of everyone doing business their way and their way only.

What I do dispute, and despite saying I would be wrong you didn't show how, is that G or any other business entity has a right to decide what anybody discusses or where. They only have the right to decide how to "do business or not" with those people within the confines of their business structure (the directory).

As well, there should be no expectations of third-party forums to police or enforce G's business policies, though individual forum owners certainly have the right to decide what the rules of their forum are and can do so as they please.

Bull, you can do whatever you want with the info that is publically availible

there really is no real world comparision that I can think of

a company scrapes info from your site, uses it to display ads next to for their profit, then gives a tool bar so you can see "pr" then they give "pr" value, then they say don't sell it? or talk about it?

I think that is the best solution to this. This way PR is said however it is not said in a way that implies that you are trying to profit off of your PR rating. It turns the sale back into a plain old like sale and g can't say a word.

This is a silly topic started by a silly man. DP is one of the most relaxed moderated webmaster sites around. I am not even sure there are ANY real rules here. TLN go to sitepoint or someplace that you can be as much a prick as you want. You need therapy my friend. You get angry and all worked up over some tiny crap that doesn't have anything to do with you at all.

    Get a life.
