I gave up years ago thinking the 'Politics' section of any forum can make any difference (I'm an Independent) ~~~~~~~~~~ Do you know about the 'Balance Of Power'? The original US Constitution (void where prohibited by law ) was a brilliant attempt at balancing power between the President, Congress, and the Courts. Does it still matter? ... or do we now see a 'lack of balance', with the President having too much power? If you live outside of the US, your opinion also might be interesting.
It is always better to give authority to one person than sharing it between a hundred. In India the PM has no independent powers. Every time an important decision has to be taken, there is at least one group in the ruling coalition that goes against it. Even simple bills take months and years to get passed.
And if that one person decides to be a dictator...? The constitution is really well laid out actually... if the President has "too much power", then it's congress' fault for giving it to him. And if the President ever has too MUCH power, and completely takes away our rights and abuses his, then we have the right and responsibility to rebel and start a revolution, and secede. If you have any better idea than the constitution and can back it up with hard facts and clear logic, be my guest.
"In India the PM has no independent powers." That is the whole idea, what he is able to do is limited ~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~ "The constitution is really well laid out actually..." My post forgot to mention the original attempted balance between states rights and limited federal power. A brilliant design, and we made a nice try at making it work well. ~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~ I didn't come to debate, and it's nice to know someone does understand balance of power. My friends used to really enjoy political debate, but I've had enough to last a lifetime. Now I just hope the people in charge don't start a full blown WW3 very soon; I've accepted (long ago) my debating skills aren't going to stop wars or effect governments. Peace.
