Baidu accepts any sites, they have an open mind, they have learned lessons from Google, never refuse an URL for a search engine, it is its payload, the more you have, the more you'll be asked for.

Baidu has accepted most of my sites, and now finally crawls for them.

The problem is the language... China has amore than a billion custommers, but most of them do not read nor understand latin alphabet. So do also most of us latin writers for chinese sites don't we ? that is a problem I think.

Here is the suggestion ,you can made a translation link on your website, and let the chinese in china translate your page themselves, i am chinese but I speak well in both english and mandarin. To get into chinese market ,you first need to understand, the chinese in china are more patriotic, most and almost all of internet users in china will use their OWN search engine, and all of them are in mandarin.Google can't make much difference in china because of history and culture issue. So, i can said that google.com cant make any big impact on chinese market. The point is the chinese don't need to understand english much because everyone is tapping into the chinese market, and people who are tapping in it are the one who need to learn mandarin. Thus, to make things easy, just put a translation link on your website and i guarantee your website is ready for the chinese market.

baidu is bigger then google in china! Not also they are listed on NASDAQ, but google used to have 2.6% of Baidu shares until Baidu went public :p
With 132 million people in China on the internet its a market to get into! Compare eBay China with Taobao (thats another example).

For me, it is much easier do the seo work at baidu than google. I have build my chinese site for 2 months, but the daily traffic ratio from baidu and google is 100:1. In my point of view, baidu loves new site but google not. If you update you site everyday with LOTs of content even if you have less back links, you will see you pages indexed by baidu increased rapidly also the traffic from it soar. But google doesn't give me chance, although it indexed my site 5k+ pages.
