Bad position in serp with the right keywords

I have an italian article marketing directory with a friend of mine. I used ArticleMS to make it. All pages are W3C validated, translated in italian and optimized.

If I search on Google "article marketing" our directory is in a bad position, over the page number 50. Sometimes the site is not reachable in serp with that keyword.

We have linked our site always with the keyword "article marketing". Is this the reason?

We are obviously most interested in italian language serps (www.google.it). Any ideas?

The keyword you're targeting is too competitive. Do some keyword research and start by targeting something useful, but not so hard to rank well with, a bit more of a long tail probably - "article marketing in Italy" "article marketing for Italians" - something like that , whatever suits your site/market. But don't guess - use as many keyword tools as you can find and research it.

    Thanks for your reply, Magda.

We think this problem is due to the Google's penalization to the article marketing and press release websites, so it keeps an eye on these sites.

However, this key (article marketing) in not competitive in google.it.

We see that some websites that link to us are in good position. These sites have a review about our directory and these reviews are in a good position compared to us.

What do you think about it?

How long has the site been up? Have you done better SEO than your competitors for the keywords? Such as more backlinks and better quality backlinks? How much unique content is there on your site? Would your site seem more relevant from a users standpoint than the sites that outrank you?

IF the site is new, less than 9 months old, this is normal. SEO calls this the "Google Sand Box".

Without knowing what the URL is or the keywords phrases are, it is very hard to give you advise on what is going on. Please supply the Forum this information if you want advise.

    1. Age: 1 year
    2. We accept (and have) only quality articles. But we have only 4-5 pages about the theme of the site (such as information about the article marketing's technique and so on).
    3. Yes, we think so. Our website is well optimized for search engines.
Actually there are 231 pages indexed and 25 BL (google), 444 indexed and 1936 BL (yahoo).

The site is one year old.

Ok, I hope it is allowed by the Forum's rules:

    www.article-marketing.it

    Keyword: article marketing.
