    if a strong .edu website (PR7 home page with many PR6 and 5 pages)has two outgoing links to porn websites,will that lower the strenght on the website,in the eyes of Google ?

    thanks

    No, they won't. They may be cause for a manual review by Google, and the university would likely end up pulling the links, but they won't devalue the site as a whole as far as Google's concerned.

    Perhaps because the "Webmaster" was naive and decided to link to them as examples of "unacceptable content" that is "not to be published on the University's Web pages". ;)

    I agree, linking to no relevant resources is bad for business. Always link to relevant and quality sites - avoid linking to more then 100 sites on one page then you don't look like a link farm.

    Linking to or have backlinks from such websites can negatively affect your standing. You can't imagine how smart SE are, especially Google. Every possible scenario is taken into consideration when it comes to filter suspected sites.

    If you're that worried about it, contact the school and tell them they have hidden porn links on their site (and ask them to "take 'em down").

    If you must link to a site and you're not sure if it's in a bad neighborhood or not, or whether google will penalize your site for such a link, then why not use a rel="nofollow" tag ? This way, the page won't leak any pr and you're telling google that although you have added this link, you cannot guarantee the quality of the site that this link points to.

    This would devalue your site.. Having a porn link on an .edu site means clearly its a paid link.. Google can easily catch this and penalize every external link on that site (including yours) for buying links to improve your rankings or PR..

    It does not devalue to whole website by Google;
    Even if it is linking to a porn source, it does not mean to be getting Google Penalty.

    If Porn Sites are considered as Bad Neighbourhoods, why are they getting top rankings in Google for there own Keywords.

    Although, the website may get manual penalty by people visiting if they found a porn link somewhere :)

    maybe not. as long as that porn website has not doing any things that violating google webmaster guidelines, that porn website is not called a bad neighborhood.
