Hi guys, i don't know if someone already mention this news else where. So I just briefly state it: Co.cc which is offering free domain name service so far has just gone 'evil' altering its policy that from now on new domain registration only enjoy first year free of charge, but subject to $$ for following years usage: the fees list: renew: * 1 year - US$3 * 2 year - US$5 * 3 year - US$7 * 4 year - US$9 * 5 year - US$10 And existing users would see an expiry date along with your co.cc domain name in the control panel. check it out!
That's how any good business model works. Offer something free, get your users hooked on the product and then start charging them to continue using it.
Yeah but you are able to get 4 free domains now without donating. Rinse and rise, still feel pretty free to me, albeit for 1 year, if your domains are making you money, it is only fair to renew them.
why not purchase a domain name like .co.cc did and then make lots of subdomains for free. The business model of .co.cc is simple. They registered a domain name .co with TLD .cc, then offering subdomain names as .co.cc domains. Now if you are able to purchase a good and short domain name then you can do this yourself by just spending around $9 per annum with domainsite.com. So I will recomend instead of spending $3 or more per year for such domain. Purchase one and ask your friends to pool money and you all can get numerous domain names for dirt cheap prices.
Useless to waste time and money on this, cause if someone will pay them, won't people go ahead and buy their own domains? I think its a pretty bad Move, cause people use these free sub domains, who are new to this field, and they start of their sites for testing purposes, so its pretty much sure that they wont pay them to use their services.
Not everyone will pay but they will make more money, if only 5 - 10 % will pay we can say their strategy is a success. The user database is huge + is free first year. Better than .info
this is bad for .co.cc I wthink now will loose a lot of users Ppl with go to .info which is better and cheaper than .co.cc (for one year renew)
i believe those who already donate $10 to get 100 domains from co.cc are most in headache now. especially if they have developed something important with their existing co.cc domains. but how can or would one pay $3x100 = $300 for subdomains, hahaha!
luckily i only use 2 co.cc for blogs, planning to close it down before expiry date by running url forwarding which can minimise the traffic lost before domain gone.
