What's with this joker bad-mouthing directories

    http://www.oldaussierecipes.com/worldsearchengines.htm

I see he listed my directory for running out of bandwidth, you try keeping a directory open that uses 100gig of bandwidth.

Everybody is entitled to their opinions. You could run the world’s best directory and you will never be able to make everybody happy.

Out of curiosity, how does a PR0 directory use 100 gig of bandwidth?

I don't really like directories myself. A lot of (not all) are here today and gone tomorrow. Haven't ever got any traffic from them to speak of. And there's too many directories out here now, like you say you own 5 of them. I've even heard people bad mouthing DMOZ lately.

WHy would PR have anything to do with bandwidth? You think youtube would have lower bandwidth if they showed PR0 on the toolbar?

That's quite an interesting post. If and only if his submissions were to the right categories and otherwise properly submitted, he does have a point. I don't agree with all of the advice given but perhaps something like this from outside of the directory industry will finally lead to a decrease in the garbage directories.

It is a shame if jonathon has been unfairly called out here and I wish you luck in contacting the owner of that site to get your site removed from the list.

I think you can stop reading after this:
"and there may be very little value in submitting to a low ranked site or buying advertising."

I wasn't clear. I was unable to find some links in some popular categories on the directory. I just couldn't see how directories use that much bandwidth.

Jonathon, i wouldn't call it bad mouthing mate from the tiny bit of text that you showed, thats nothing, just stating the bandwidth exceeded.

    Relax :)

Much ado about nothing. That website's criticism is about as important as a spit in the ocean. Hey, it's written on a food recipe site.

Forget it, drop it, move on, nothing to see here.

No way, that directory is taking up 25GB per month. And yes, even though there is no direct link between PR0 and number of unqiue visits thus bandwidth, I would say a directory with about 25GB traffic would have some sort of PR.

there is a link on this page http://www.oldaussierecipes.com/contactcentre.htm

i just sent them a very nice email(not) telling them to remove my directory.

They did brake my terms of submission unlike what they have stated on there list.

I bad mouth directories all the time. And I think its well deserved.

Four years ago in April I first opened my first sites. For the following 8 - 10 months I submitted to every directory I could find. I must have submitted to over 100 directories, and today, not a single backlink shows up in my google webmaster tools. Even the following months after I submitted to directories, not a single link showed up in my google tools. But, as part of the submission I provided a link back to the directory. And in return, I got nothing.

Directories are a waste of time. I wasted 8 - 10 months on outdated promotion techniques and got nothing in return.
