I'm launching an affiliate website in a month but want to start doing SEO (acquiring links) now. The site is a WordPress site and and currently invisible (non-indexable) to search engines. I want to optimize keywords for a certain product because of the competition for it. Is it bad practice to start acquiring backlinks before the site goes officially live?
tough question. If you have content on your website, and the on site seo is done then it does hurt. Otherwise i would wait to about a week to two before launch.
Complete the website first with the OnPage SEO Work. Add GOOGLE xml sitemap. Submit your website on all major Serach Engine. Then go for the Back Links.
Normally IMO the best time to optimize your site is when it is complete in all aspects and just before you make it live, give it a grind by an SEO and have him add all the missing things. This works best for me, so by that time all you need to do is promote it.
