Bad guys name Mohammed - do they shame the Prophet?

I'm an outsider so I don't get all the ins and outs of Islam.

Back in 2007 a woman got convicted of insulting Islam when she allowed her class of 6 year olds to name their class mascot with the Prophet's name.

On a regular basis we get spammers and scammers here who appear to have been given, or have chosen to use, the Prophet's name.
    • Is there a different standard of behaviour expected from the boys who bear his name?
    • Surely every time you say "Mohammed is thieving scum" you risk being misinterpreted?
    • How do you get around that?

I am also an Outsider to Islam, let me share what i am aware of

Islam prohibits idol worship & more importantly Muslims do not like the portrayal of the great Mohammad in any physical form as it will be equating him (a god) to a human. So, they must have been agitated when their god was associated with a Non Living thing(Sudanese case). It is a faith of Islam (which i respect) and it becomes a problem only when a Non Muslim uses his/her right to not accept the Islamic rules/sentiments(the Sudanese teacher was not a Muslim)

In India a Muslim artist regularly painted Hindu goddesses in Nude, but did not fail to portray his daughter in the correct attire - Link here, some Sick-ular people here called it just as a conflict in interpreting art & a state government of India tried to award him with a prestigious award finally at the time of his demise the Prime Minister of the Country called it as a "National Loss". Compare this with the Sudanese case and you will understand that the tolerance level varies across the world . It is too bad to be on both the ends :)

About your Question of spammers, you have them stumped!!

I personally feel that the hackers and spammers do not understand how their action affects the reputation of their religion. The following screen shot shows a hacker using the words "Long Live Islam" in a hacked popular news website. So, a section of them probably do not have an idea of what will glorify their religion and what will not.

No. While the person should respect the meaning of his/her name, still most people don't including all nations!

Surely every time you say "Mohammed is thieving scum" you risk being misinterpreted?
    No.

How do you get around that?
Insulting a prophet (popular person) which has followers of all nations and insulting someone with the prophet name is completely different.

The link and story you provided, if it is indeed as described, then it is just madness and craziness in my opinion and understanding. Not to mention it is something rare and shocking and I think there is more to the story.

I had many Sudanese friends and they are well known for their kindness.

Spammers, scammers as well as hackers, they usually do not use their real identity/name. It could be completely the opposite of what you think or believe.
