Seeing as the Directory's operators have no control over what Google elects to index and cache, should they therefore compromise their editorial policy to ensure that website operators get an indexed link as soon as possible ?

IMHO, no, the page will probably get indexed at a time of Googles choosing, very likely that time will coincide with the page gaining content considered cache worth by Google

Having said the above, I can well understand why a website proprietor might have considerable angst over this issue.

But, if the directory is to be the quality directory you submitted to, whose reputation attracted you in the first instance, then perhaps you'll understand that the editors decisions might not always coincide with your opinion

I was always taught that the customer is not always right you just have to make them think they are. ;)

Good points you made though DU

Not a very nice reply to say the least, but he did make some good points.... and some weird ones. I've seen people who get refunded and dropped imediately just because they said that they were in the wrong category. If it goes on like this, Joeant is going to have a difficult future ahead!

The simple fact of the matter as hard as it is to take for some is that if the terms and conditions of submission are clear then it really is a case of buyer beware.

Sounds like JoeAnt don't want the hassle of administering the site. Unfortunately, when running a directory this cannot be avoided easily.

This is the problem with hiring outsiders (editors) to do the work, lack of control and they can do anything behind your back and hide it from the boss.

I don't think these directories are for the user, there's something else going on, and it's not pretty.

As much as it pains me I have to agree with the point that many directories (even one's that claim they are better than what they are) often don't have any real level of editorial integrity. Anyone can open a directory, not anyone can run a successful one without putting a lot of thought and hard work in.
