I created campaign several days ago. My keywords doesn't have a lot of search and doesn't have a lot ads for them. For 4-5 days I got about 1,500 impressions and 5 clicks (CTR is 0.33%). After that CPC for all keywords increased dramatically. At first all my keywords were 5 cents, now a lot of them $1 and I have one with $5. Is this CTR really low for Google? Is it why my CPC grows, so fast? I think my CTR is so low, because my keywords really technical and I don't think that technical people really like to click on ads + I have choosen really a lot of keywords (some of them not the best). The reason I did because I don't have a lot of searches for any of my keywords, so I wanted to increase Impressions. Also I used broad search for most of them and it doesn't work as I though before. What can you suggest in this situation? Now I'm at the point where I'm afraid to do anything, since I'm afraid that all my CPC will be $5. My CPC was growing every day for every keyword. It looks really quick to me, because I can't analyze my data with several days, 1,500 impressions and 5 clicks. Thanks, Victor
Victor, You should aim for your CTR to be at an absolute minimum of 1-2% That's with the content network disabled of course. The reason why google raised your cpc is b/c they deemed that your ads are not relevant to the searchers. You should provide the serachers w/ relevant ads. To do so, you should break down your keywords in related categories, and then write ads for each category and have a different landing page related to each category again. They key here is relevance. BTW, you are not interested in traffic for the sake of traffic. Quality trageted traffic even if it's minimal is what you're after. amir
Do you think that if I increase CTR to 1-2% CPC will go down? I want to try to separate my keywords in different groups, but I'm afraid that I can make mistake again and all my keywords will be $5. Is the any way to reset quality score if I accidently make it low? Another problem is that my campaign is a little bit specific. We are selling blue widget, which is actually working only with yellow widget. There're a lot of people who're using yellow widget, but the don't know that blue widget exists and I want to target those customers. My keyword in this case is yellow widget. (There is no point to put blue widget as a keyword because our site is first by that keyword anyway). I guess my CTR is so low because when people searching for yellow widget they really want yellow widget, so don't really pay attention to ads.
Hey vitich, noorodeen is right. Take a couple of those broad match keywords you have and split them up into several phrase match keywords. Be exact and even separate those singular and plural versions of keywords. Then write a pay per click ad for each keyword. Here are some suggestions on writing your pay per click ads. http://payperclickreference.com/WritingYourPayPerClickAds Now that you have improved your ads, you can continue to improve your ad quality score by improving your landing pages for those ads. The landing pages should confirm what you advertised in your pay per click ads and put the conversion action in front of the visitor. http://payperclickreference.com/CreatingALandingPage In regard to your blue and yellow widget example, you should be creating PPC ads for the keyword phrase "yellow widget" and lots of variations of it. Since your potential customers don't know about the blue widget but do know the yellow widget, you have to start here. If you are right, then there won't be any searches on blue widgets. You already know this, but make sure your landing pages handle the transition from yellow widget (what they already know) to blue widget (what they don't know and you want to sell them). You should present the relationship between the two as complimentary, like peanut butter and jelly.
Thanks, I'll try to update my campaign and see how it works. By the way, if I update landing page how long will it take for google to update quality score?
I can't give you an exact time table on how often Google updates the quality score. However, you should see better conversion rates right away which are a contributing factor.
