I don't think that this has something to do with co-op. I thought that before when all my sites dropped. Today they came back to normal and co-op is still on these pages.

My gabage pick up is late, so I called the Mayor at home.

I got an answering machine! I can't understand why they don't have someone there to take my call on Saturday when my garbage pickup is ten minutes late!

No offence will, but others are seeing this too. It's been what. one day? Over Night?

It's Saturday, you think corporate is in the office? You think maybe the form letter was a hint you are wasting their time?

This makes it harder for other to do REAL business with google for the rest of us. It' wastes time and resourses.

I don't know, noppid. That's starting to sound a little too close to a Resourceless Zone comment to me...

I don't think any enterprise should ever do anything except encourage feedback and correspondence from their customers/guests/visitors...

    Minstel:

    Exactly.

This is why every content page of the Tech FAQ has a feedback option.

Feedback is greatly appreciated, because it helps to improve the system.

This is why Google created a feedback capability and a reinclusion request procedure.

This is why GoogleGuy recommends the official reinclusion request procedure.

Because its the right way to do business.

There in lies my problem with this. The use of the word customer. A customer would not get a form letter, he would, IMO, have an agent. I don't think most of us are customers at all.

I agree that they should encourage feedback and I think they handled it well in this case. The response form letter was clear, we're not wasting time with this.

Ok, so does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

Its probably a temporary thing Will - and nothing Google is gonna do about it on a weekend. Im sure Google gets thousands of emails a day asking "Why am I not in the index"

Give it a day or two and see what happens.

Do you still have pages indexed?

Have you made any recent changes that might have caused this?

I put my money on it all being back to normal in 48 hours. I doubt Will would have done anything grey or black so without investigating in detail I put it down to Google's consistent show of inconsistency and randomness.

I saw some main keywords drop entirely out of the top 200. These had been top 10 for a long time- but I've seen this before and it only lasts a couple of days. The one thing I did notice was that the sites that are now top 10 are the most spammy looking sites I've ever seen. The real ugly kind with 400 text product links on their home page.

They keyword is also used in the title tag for almost all of the top 100 results- more so than usual. Hope this isn't a permanent change in google algorithm - can't imagine end users would be happy with these type of search results.

Not yet, and I have a previous bad experience with Google much like this one.

I had a domain, http://www.gsmsecurity.com which enjoyed a PR5 and a reasonable amount of traffic from Google.

One day, http://www.gsmsecurity.com dropped to PR0 and all Google traffic stopped.

A few months later, I sent Google a reinclusion request.

Google responded that my site was not being penalized.

Several months later, I registered a new domain for that site and 301'd the old domain to the new domain. http://www.gsm-security.net immediately shot up to a PR5 and has been there for over a year.

Google was never able to determine the problem which caused that site to disappear from Google for approximately six months. They were never even able to see the problem.

Somehow, the domain was simply corrupted in their database. The new domain fixed things up in a jiffy.

Eventually, the old domain returned to a PR5. I do not know if this was because the error in Google's database worked itself out or if this was due to the 301 redirect causing both sites to be seen as the same site.

The good news, of course, is that I know how to fix this problem if it continues. I can just register yet another new domain...

Will - Go out. Dont stare at this all day. Go get a drink somewhere and take it off your mind for awhile. Come back tomorrow or monday and look again. I dont even check those stats once a day - I usually check every 2-3 days myself.

One possible idea though - are you on shared hosting and is your IP being penalized?

Not much change recently. I've been on my honeymoon and the only changes I've made recently were to add some content pages that I wrote during that trip.

I worry about changes made to other sites. However, it seems to me that if that were the case, the competing site would show up in the SERPS.

The search results for "System Identification Home System" seem to prove that no competing site is grabbing my SERPS. (302 redirect or some such nonsense)

Well, I checked my AdSense stats this morning... and that got me very interested.

Money tends to do that to a fella. :D

Luckily no. I have about 20 domains on this IP (my own FreeBSD box) and this is the only domain to be penalized.

What has happened has been fairly weird.

My keywords flitted back into the SERPS last night, and were gone again this morning.

Hundreds of keywords into and out of the SERPS.

    Current status: OUT.

Note: Data tested using the Digital Point Keyword Tracker and manual Google searches.

Don't worry too much about it, Will - this is pretty common on Google updates.

The only time to really be concerned is *after* everybody says the update has finished, but then your site is still out.

A few days ago my main site which is usually #2 had dropped to 10 when I checked in the morning. By evening it was down to 11 (manual check). By evening of the following day it was back up to #2. The only changes I had made were to remove links to another site from about 15 of 115 pages.

I built this site before I had ever heard of SEO and only 20% or the searches tarket this term. My traffic dropped by about 50% but my income stayed about the same because the CTR went up. Makes me think poorly optimized pages provide a "buffer" for SERP swings. :)
