I think there is a theory that by becoming prolific Wikipedians, ODP Admins and Metas can somehow hijack a thriving project as the ODP wanes. Which would be futile if that were the case. It does make you wonder how much time an Admin has on their hands if they contribute so much to another project whilst the one they are supposed to be leading needs all their attention to turn things around. Linking ODP categories within Wikipedia bothers me personally because the ODP is incapable of maintaining the categories properly. That means broken or hijacked links, and a degree of unfairness as the ODP can't list all relevant sites. Some might also see it as a cynical attempt to ride on the back of Wikipedia's relative success in Google searches whilst the Google version of the ODP directory has disappeared (on the .com version anyway). A bit of naughty marketing, not unlike loads of other webmasters who do the same thing.
What you still don't get is the fact that Admins and Metas don't work on DMOZ or wikipedia as a hobby. It is part of their work, so don't worry they have time. They only concentrate their time where they believe is most profitable for them in the long run.
I know that in your sub-conscious you agree with me and that is the reason you wanted to repeat my post by quoting it.
the context of this post was that ODP would like to destroy Wikipedia and I pointed out that ODP carried links to it, which to me suggests they support the project rather than they are seeking to destroy it. Might be clever marketing, Brizie, and may be seeking to ride on their backs, but can't see anything to suggest they want to destroy it. Admins spend a great deal of time on Wiki may be them keeping an iron in many fires, but don't give ODP up that easily, it ain't dead yet by a way and seems to be having a new injection of life recently. Watch this space.....for 6 months and see!
I was talking about ODP admins and Metas that are spamming wikipedia and trying to get the control and corrupt it as the same way that they have done with DMOZ. An organization is not about the links, it is about the people who run it and the day that the band of corrupt and crazy from DMOZ have the same type of influence in wikipedia then wikipedia will become as useless as DMOZ.
Wikipedia is open and democratic, an Open Source project. It can't be controlled in the same way as DMOZ could. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it gworld.
This sounds as somebody powerful has 6 months to live and everyone is waiting for that persons to die so they could take over. Since wikipedia is my main competitor I wouldn't mind that turn of events.
You didn't think that DMOZ was corrupt in the beginning either. They already control some pages through their multiple personalities and since they work as a group it will be very easy to give an impression that everything is above the board as they do in DMOZ.
